HOW WE MEASURE THIS HORSE
Our standing horses are sized by one number - their height. This one is different, because a grazing horse is low and long rather than tall, so a single height figure would tell you almost nothing useful.

We measure it two ways instead:
- Length: nose to tail, along the body
- Height: hooves to the top of the back, at its highest point

Small: 11.4 cm long x 7 cm tall (4.5" x 2.76")
Large: 14 cm long x 9.5 cm tall (5.5" x 3.74")

For comparison, our Large is roughly the same length as a standing 13-15 cm horse, but under half the height - it sits low rather than standing up on a shelf.

WHY THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT
Almost every Dala horse stands, four legs square, head up. This one grazes - the pose most real horses are actually in, most of the time. It is a genuinely uncommon shape in a category where the standing form is close to universal, which is why collectors who already own several horses tend to want this one next.

Because the pose is low and grazing rather than upright, it takes up far less height on a shelf than a standing horse of a similar length - worth knowing if you're placing it somewhere with limited clearance above, like a mantelpiece with objects behind it.

WHICH SIZE SHOULD I CHOOSE?
- Small (11.4 cm long) - shelf, windowsill, desk, or a gift to post
- Large (14 cm long) - a proper display piece with real presence, still low enough to sit under most shelving

WHAT IS A DALA HORSE?
The Dala horse comes from Dalarna in central Sweden, where wooden horses have been carved and painted for centuries - the oldest surviving example dates to the mid-1500s from Vastra Fors. The flowing floral decoration is called kurbits, a folk painting tradition from the same region. The Dala horse became Sweden's most recognised symbol after the 1939 New York World's Fair, and it is still made and painted in Dalarna today.

ABOUT OUR HORSES
We work directly with established workshops and independent artists in Dalarna. Every horse is painted by hand, which is why yours will not be identical to the photograph. That variation is the point: each one is an individual object, not a printed copy.

CARE
Dust with a dry or barely damp cloth. Keep out of direct sunlight and away from damp, as with any painted wood.
