Vintage Dala Horse with head turned to the side
Rare Wooden Dala Horse with head turned to the side from the 1970s
Unique and unusual Dala Horse with head turned to the side.
The first Dala horse with its head turned to the side dates back to the 1900s. The carver Anders Brändin Bergström (1870-1958) was from Viborg, village in Orsa. He is famous for his horses carved with wooden tails, split years, and eyes. Some of his horses have heads like no other Dala horse - turned to the side. During the 1930s - 1940s, his horses were painted in Vattnäs by the Hvits and Nissers. The newer horses are carved by hand by traditional artists in Sweden.
This horse is handmade.
Dala horse is a traditional carved, painted wooden statue of a horse originating in the Swedish province of Dalarna. In the old days, it was mostly used as a toy for children, while in modern times, it has become a symbol of Dalarna, as well as of Sweden in general.
